I firmly and truly do NOT believe that eating disorders are about being thin to look pretty. Nobody would go to the level of abuse that an ED sufferer exerts on themselves for that. 

But I have zero doubt that a culture that tells us thin = pretty and that striving for that prettiness is something not just acceptable but outright important makes it easier for eating disorders to thrive and flourish.
